The Portage Rotary Club has wrapped up phase two for their duck pond restoration project.

P.R. director Preston Meier says while the club has made progress on the three-year project, they have to put it on hold throughout the Winter months. He talks about the progress made so far on the duck pond.

"We've got the bump-outs that are there, we got the waterfall there, and we got all the lights and so on going up, so we leave it for the wintertime and we'll start phase three when we come into the springtime," notes Meier. "So if you haven't had a chance to see the new deck, please do if you have the chance."

He explains that the project has three phases to go along with the three-year timeline they've set. He goes into detail on what's left to be done when they return next year for phase three.

"The electrical portion of the deck itself, plus other enhancements and some elements that we're putting on there as well," says Meier. "It'll be the completion of the bump-outs, so the intent is that they're going to settle over the wintertime in the springtime we're going to add another top-fill to it, and then put in some interlocking brick."

He adds they intend to add fencing and lighting to the area as well. Meier explains that they want to make the duck pond the go-to spot for anyone hosting a marriage, or any other large-scale event.

He says while there isn't a set date for when the Rotary Club will pick the project back up, they intend to restart as quickly as possible. He mentions that the club is responsible for the upkeep of the pond for the first 10 years after the renovation, and will then give it back to the city.

"If anybody wants to help us out please give us a shout," says Meier. "We'd love to have you. This project is all about giving back to the community."
