Almost 2,000 voters cast ballots at Sandy Bay First Nation last Thursday, and the chief and all but one councillor were re-elected. Chief Lance Roulette says their new councillor is Trevor Prince. He says Mike Dumas, Jason Starr, and Brian Spence remain as councillors.

"We welcome Mr. Prince," says Roulette. "And we're looking forward to the next two years formulating and ensuring we follow through in all of the many goals and objectives we've set up -- not only as a collective body -- but to ensure we're moving forward in a position for Sandy Bay to be very formidable in the areas of economic development."

Roulette attributes the re-elections to areas of progress in which they engaged, moving forward. He says that's a tough challenge, especially when barriers arise that they didn't foresee. Roulette says the people apparently saw how well the council worked together and engaged youth, which he adds is a very key part of success in any council.

He says he extends thanks on behalf of council and himself to everyone who came out and exercised their right to vote, and for their votes. Roulette says finding ways to address various concerns in the community is the next step they're taking, and they'll try to do the best they can for Sandy Bay First Nation.
