The Portage Learning Centre's Settlement Services was organized in
November, and have since been providing aid to newcomers during their
time of transition.
They provide services to immigrants at no extra cost, and now they're
looking for help. Jennifer Boundy, Coordinator of settlement services
notes Macgregor Residents Abe and Mary Friesen have been collecting and
distributing furniture and other supplies, and though there are many
donations they can't find a space to keep it in.
Boundy explains they're looking for a dry, mouse free, 16 by 20 space where they can keep donated furniture before it is distributed. She notes furniture has been damaged in the past due to a lack of safe storage space. She adds there are cases of newcomers in borderline empty apartments, and this storage space would help provide them with much needed supplies. For more information contact the Portage Learning Centre.
