It was a successful year for snowmobilers and Club Snow in Portage la Prairie according to Club Snow president Ken Penman.

He says there were more trails this year to benefit the riders, and explains the snowmobile trails benefited wildlife as well.

"Snowmobiling doesn't affect wildlife because it provides trails to make it easier for animals to travel. They don't have to go through the heavy snow, and in lots of areas you'll find the moose, deer, wolves, coyotes, and porcupines walk on the trails to get from one area to another. It helps wildlife, but most people think it doesn't."

Penman says the club ran into a bit of an issue with Wildlife Management this year.

"We had a bit of an issue with land management and wildlife because we have to get a permit to go through their land because you can't use a motorized vehicle from March 1st to November. We had to develop a bit of a new trail because we ran into a land owner agreement problem out there so we had to move the trail to some land that touched on some of the Wildlife Management area."
