The Portage Terriers picked up a point in their final meeting with the MJHL's top-ranked squad. The Terriers fell 4-3 in overtime to the Dauphin Kings tonight.

The Terriers opened the scoring while they were short-handed. One of the newest additions to the Terriers, Mason Smith, was sprung on a breakaway and fired a shot high that found the back of the net and gave Portage an early lead.

Just a few seconds later, Tyler Dodgson went end to end and fired a wrist shot near the top of the circle, which once again beat Kings' goalie Carson Cherepak. The Dogs' held the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Dauphin finally got on the scoreboard a few minutes into the second as a Kings' defenceman gloved down a clearing attempt and fired a shot toward the net. The initial save was made by Jayden Catellier, however, Ethan Williment was there for the rebound and tucked it into the back of the net and cut the lead in half.

Midway through the frame, Kings' leading scorer Kaden Bryant was in all alone and looked to pick up his 17th goal of the season but Catellier stood tall and kept the Dogs up by one.

Despite the big save, with a delayed penalty coming to Portage, Bryant had another opportunity and fired a shot, which was tipped by Brayden Dube and tied the game 2-2.

Matt Wisener entered the zone along the boards and outskated a defender but threw the puck toward the net from an odd angle. The puck somehow trickled past Cherepak and gave the Terriers back the lead, less than a minute later.

The Kings tied the game again early in the third as Ashton Fishley blocked a shot, but the puck bounced right to Bryant at the side of the net, who was able to put it home.

Catellier made a few big saves late in the third to keep the game tied, which brought us to overtime, however, Colby Jaquet sealed the deal early in the extra frame for Dauphin. This made the final score 4-3 Kings and gave Dauphin the victory in the season series with Portage.

The Terriers will be looking to get back in the win column next weekend as they have a pair of games on the road in OCN as they battle the Blizzard.
