The Dakota Warriors are proud of the performance they had at their home tournament this weekend.

The U15 Indigenous hockey program hosted the 'SCOREDEN' Cup at Stride Place and ended up finishing in second place. Assistant coach Joshua Pashe says the growth of this group has been tremendous.

"Four years ago, these guys were just little kids, and now they're pretty much picking me up, and I'm getting hugged by them," Pashe continues. "Their development, overall, has been absolutely amazing, and to see some of their careers taking off is awesome, and then there are the others who are just having fun and love it. They're definitely making amazing memories together."

The Warriors were defeated 2-1 in overtime by the Dauphin River Chiefs in the final, and Pashe says, while it was a tough loss, they are very happy with the way the team played.

Pashe adds the event as a whole was very successful.

"It was amazing. My big brother Kyle did all the groundwork," Pashe explains. "Just to have this event at Stride was an amazing experience, and I hope we're able to do it again."

The assistant coach notes the team will take a bit of a break from tournament action for the next month before competing again in the summer. Pashe outlines what they want to work on in the meantime.

"For us, it's about managing that defensive game," says Pashe. "A lot of our guys are very gifted offensively, and you can tell they want that jump, and they want to get ahead on the rush. So, we definitely have to make sure, when we're coming back, everyone has their man. But these are amazing kids, and I know they're willing to learn."

Pashe gives thanks to the fans that came out to support the 'SCOREDEN' Cup.
