Say goodbye to the first week of November, and we're off to the races when it comes to holiday related events. Before we get to that there is of course a very important day on Friday, Remembrance Day. If you're looking for a service to attend, take a look at this week's What's the Happ, Plap?

- Portage Terriers are looking good as of late, riding a four game win streak after their most recent win Friday night against Neepawa. They'll look to extend that as they visit Winkler in a yuuge (huge in Donald Trump talk) game on Wednesday night at 7:30pm. Broadcast of the game starts with the pregame show at 7:20 on POL (hey! that's this website you're currently on, make sure to bookmark us)

- Speaking of the Terriers, this Thursday is their annual Sportsman Dinner and Auction at CanadInns. Heather Jordan is who you need to call if you want tickets and if you do, should probably get on that soon as they need to know how many people are coming. Call her ASAP (deadline is kinda Monday-Tuesdayish) at 870-1210. Not gonna want to miss it as there's a great meal, awesome prizes, and former CFL-er, Grey Cup Champion and all around swell guy Chris Walby will be the guest speaker.

- The last flu clinic for Portage is Wednesday at the PCU from 10-7.

- Congratulations are in order for the PCI Trojans football team. They boys won the Winnipeg High School Football League semi-final last week and have booked themselves a ticket to the championship game on Wednesday night against Dryden at Investors Group Field. Good luck guys and GO TROJANS GO!!

- 37% is where the United Way sits with their campaign goal, I say we can get them to 100% well before the end of the year (which is the deadline). You can either straight up just donate some cash online or by stopping by their office, or you can help by purchasing a progressive 50/50 ticket which they'll be selling until Dec. 9. Please call the lovely Mandy Dubois and the fine folks at the United Way at 857-4440 to get either 50/50 or to donate, and don't forget their Ladies' Shopping Night is fast approaching on Nov. 17.

- Saturday the festive season will offcially kick off as Homes For the Holidays celebrates its 12th year. All the money raised goes to Habitat For Humanity, and get this, in the last twelve years they've raised enough money through this event, over $120,000, which means they've been responsible for the building of a home through Habitat that went to a family in the community; Awesome stuff.  Get tickets right up until the tours at Bryson's, Schpanksy's, Mil-Jeannes', Solomon's, and Canadian Tire. Tour times are 12-4 and 5-9.

- On Friday we will commemorate those who fought for our country and our freedom as Remembrance Day will be honoured in the surrounding areas with services. Portage's annaul Remembrance Day service will again happen at the PCU Centre at 11am, although you are told to be there well before to allow everyone to be seated so it can start exactly at 11. MacGregor's service happens at the Cenotaph at 10:30am. If you know of any Remembrance Day services in the area we might have missed, feel free to email us and we'll add it to the list.
