Community members at Long plain First Nation took part in an elder abuse information workshop today.

The main focus was on potential abuse once Residential School compensation payments arrive.

Organizer Liz Yellowquill notes it's an issue people in the community are talking about. She adds there are a lot of unanswered questions.

Yellowquill acknowledges a level of concern about abuse once the cheques are issued, and they want information available before that happens.

A presentation was made by the RCMP. Constable Dave Higgs points out criminals are aware of the payments, and hopes the session will help elders avoid being victimized.
