Chase Brakel gets set to take the faceoff for Portage

The Portage Terriers picked up the 4-2 road victory over the Selkirk Steelers and take a 2-0 series lead. The first period was a back and forth affair with 5 goals in total.

The Steelers took their first lead of the series when Austin Douglas found the back of the net after a Terrier penalty expired. Portage would tie it a few minutes later when Dean Stewart fired a point shot home with a penalty coming. Portage would take the lead minutes later when Leipsic finished off a perfect 2 on 1 with Brayden MacDonald. Jake Dudar split the Terrier defence less than a minute later, and just like game one, went post and in.

The Terrier power play would find the back of the net before the end of the first when the puck squirted out to Shawn Bowles. The second and most of the third would be quiet as the teams traded chances. Portage put it out of reach when Chase Brakel finished off a 3 on 1 late in the third period.

Terrier assistant coach Paul Harland says "I thought we played pretty good, but there are definitely areas where we can improve. Their team has played well both games and is a challenge."

Nathan Park had the win in net stopping 22 of 24. The Terriers now have a 2-0 series lead heading into game 3 at the PCU Centre on Tuesday at 7:30. The pre game show will be at 7:20 on CFRY and portageonline.com.
