Life Journey Through Autism is an organization providing housing for adults who are in the autism spectrum. RM of Cartier Reeve Dale Fossay says a delegation visited council to rezone the site from a holding zone to a residential area, and allow residents to attend an open hearing.

"Generally, the comments are very positive," says Fossay. "They thought this site would be good for Life Journey to build two houses. Inside the two houses, there will be accommodations for eight adults to live. The community of Elie, St. Eustache and the Municipality of Cartier has a history, both in the community and in the school system, of being accepting and very recognizing that everyone needs a place to live. Life Journey was looking for a place in a rural setting, and everything seemed to fall into place. Creating housing for eight adults is going to create 35-plus full-time jobs. For a small community like ours to land that number of jobs in the one setting, that's really outstanding."

Fossay says the timeline for the project includes an approved rezoning that was approved in early January, while considering time for building contracts to be put in place and to purchase land. He notes this should allow them to bring people into the completed facility in November of this year. He notes the public hearing saw remarks made about parking lot and traffic issues, and the company took those concerns to heart and reorganized the actual blueprint to accommodate those concerns.
