"It didn't seem like any great problem. It just sort of flowed."

That's former Town of Arborg Mayor Randy Sigurdson describing his ability to serve 16 years as mayor and seven years on council before that. Sigurdson outlines factors attributing to the success of his long career.

"I think the thing that I would emphasize is that I had such good people around me all the time," says Sigurdson. "I know I was blessed with councils for all those years. There were some changes, but everybody just seemed to work well together. We didn't always see eye to eye."

He adds the Town of Arborg staff were excellent. Sigurdson notes CAO Lorraine Bardarson seemed to mesh together with him quite well, and it was always a pleasure working with her and her staff.

Sigurdson notes public works was also comprised of great people, adding it's no exaggeration. He says their snow clearing and daily work around town was always done well. He explains it made life easy for council and especially the mayor. Sigurdson says even the townspeople are nice and don't really complain very much. PIacing that all together, he notes his job was pleasant and pleasurable.

He says what stands out the most over those years include the many changes made. Sigurdson says he took over from a great mayor and good councils, putting the town in great shape to continue the work. He notes improvements like sidewalk work and paving projects come to mind, as well as building the assisted living facility. The tenth anniversary for the facility was celebrated a couple of years ago, and has been a wonderful addition to Arborg.

Now that he's away from the council, Sigurdson adds he's going to retire and enjoy the good life, with no specific plans in mind.
