This past Friday saw a walking poker derby held out in MacGregor to raise funds for the North Norfolk Dog Park.

Committee member Kennedy Guy says they received a really good turnout for their first time hosting such an event with over 500 registered poker hands by the end of the derby.

"It was absolutely amazing to see so many people out walking with their dogs and their families and kids and grandkids," says Guy, adding the committee is planning on making the walking poker derby an annual event.

She says the total amount raised by the poker derby came to just over $1,000, with a little over $500 going toward the dog park. The money will go toward building the fence, water hook-ups, agility equipment, signage, picnic tables or parking.

Guy notes the off-leash park is about a quarter way to completion, explaining there are a handful of things that the committee is hoping to develop on the land before the fence goes up. She says they're hopeful the park will be open this year but adds the grand opening could potentially be as late as early spring 2021.
