Snow has started to fall in Portage la Prairie and there have been reports of some freezing rain around the Central Plains.

Portage RCMP Constable Larry Neufeld says they need people to drive carefully regardless of where they are heading.

"With the temperatures hovering near freezing, the RCMP would like to remind motorists that precipitation of any kind, can turn the roads into a skating rink," says Cst. Neufeld. "Remember, the posted speed limit is for ideal driving conditions. We can expect that to change with some snow flurries in the forecast for today, so please slow down and drive to the road conditions."

Environment and Climate Change Canada is calling for 2 to 4 centimetres of snow today in Portage. Highs for the rest of the week are hovering around zero.
