The RM of Cartier has a new by-law to regulate long term parking on residential streets.

Cartier council passed the new municipal legislation at its meeting Monday. It allows fines of up to $500 to be levied against vehicles or trailers parked on streets that obstruct the free passage of traffic, pose a safety hazard or interfere with snow removal. The by-law applies on any roadway in Elie, St. Eustache, Fort Rouge, Springstein and Lido Plage.

Reeve Dale Fossay says this is not a major issue in Cartier with only a handful of complaints received over the past 10 years, and levying fines would only be used as a last resort in dealing with repeat offenders.

“With most folks a courtesy phone call will suffice,” Fossay adds. “But those that might need a little more of a push, we now have by-law which gives us a little more muscle to impose a fine.”
