The RM of Portage la Prairie is keeping its current policy with the best interests of farmers in mind. Reeve Kam Blight says there was the option of changing the tile drainage policy so a couple of people would be responsible for future decisions.

"The administration brought forward a tile drainage policy amendment to allow just a couple of members to make the decision rather than all the council," explains Blight. "And council has decided that they would rather it stay the way it was, and have all the council in on the decision-making."

All in council are involved in agriculture and have great input, he adds. That input, Blight notes, is valuable to each of the other council members. He says tile drainage is such a new a concept that everyone wanted to keep several voices in on any future related issue.
