With the summer months comes construction along our highways and roads. And it is a good time to remind drivers to drive safely and obey the rules of the road.

When driving through construction zones or past emergency vehicles it is the law to slow down to 60 KM/H if the speed limit is above 80 KM/H and to 40 KM/H if the speed limit is below 80 KM/H.

“When you’ve been driving down the highway at 100 it can be hard to slow down to 60, but we really appreciate it when you do. And just pay attention when you’re driving through work zones" says Denise Jubenvill, with Manitoba Infrastructure.

Speeding fines in construction zones are doubled and could lead to hefty fines if the speed limit not followed.

“It’s always very important to watch your speed on the highways and to watch for crews working,” Jubenvill adds. “And please don’t drive distracted and please don’t drink and drive.”
