The City of Portage la Prairie flag has been lowered to half-mast after Councillor Wayne Wall has passed away.

Wall was employed by the City of Portage from 1994 until 2012 when he retired from his position of Manager of the Water Pollution Control Facility. He ran for City Council in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018. During his tenure, he served as the Chair of the Waterworks Committee and sat on many boards.

Mayor Irvine Ferris says learning of the passing was extremely sad to hear.

"He was certainly more than just a colleague. He was also a friend and will be dearly missed by those of us who worked alongside him."

Mayor Ferris notes what he'll remember about Councillor Wall.

"He loved serving the people of Portage, and he did so with dedication and commitment."
