The Manitoba Government, following the lead of neighbouring provinces, decided to put new public health restrictions in place, which came into effect yesterday.

These new guidelines and restrictions are sure to affect us all in one way or another as we try and fight through a new variant.

Stan Killam, the owner of the Portage, Mr. Mikes, shapes how the new restrictions will affect his restaurant.

"It's not going to affect it by much, meaning we've already been at 50% capacity before, but the advantage this time is that we're allowed tables of 10 vaccinated guests, which was better than the tables of five, which was only allowed with family members before. So, it's not going to affect us a whole lot because half capacity is quite a lot in our restaurant."

Stan compares his feelings about these newly imposed restrictions compared to restrictions imposed in the past.

"I'm a lot happier with the decisions they made this time than last; yes, it is a positive." Killam continues, "They've been seeing that we have been doing our job. You have to be vaccinated to get in here. You have to show your QR code. You have to show your identification before you get into any restaurant, and we're taking the necessary precautions to clean the restaurant, which we did before the pandemic even started."

The new health orders took effect yesterday (Tuesday) and will remain in place until at least January 11.
