Portage la Prairie RCMP recently responded to a disturbance behind a business that led to weapon charges.

Police say just after 9 p.m. on September 11th, they located several men behind a business on 1st Street SW in Portage la Prairie. As an officer spoke to the group, they saw a can of beer fall out of a person's bag.

The officer did police checks on the suspects, which led to the discovery that the 37-year old male from Winnipeg was bound by several court-ordered conditions.

Police say Michael Bernardin was in breach of these conditions and was placed under arrest, and during a search of the suspect, a large-edged weapon was located.

He was remanded into custody and faces charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and two counts of failing to comply with a release order.
