The Portage Rotary Club has returned to meeting in person, and the members are excited to get back out and help improve the community.

Public relations director Preston Meier says while they're starting to gather in-person for their meetings again, they're going to continue to follow the public health orders set by the provincial government. He says, now that they have all the necessary precautions in place, they're excited to be back.

"It's been a long time and I know I can speak for everybody when they say to have a chance to interact and socialize and not have to do it online is really great," explains Meier. "We've got several meetings that are coming up. We meet every week, we've upped our nighttime meetings, and we're going to carry on with our current projects."

He adds, one project they're especially excited to pick back up is the duck pond project, which will be in phase three once they start. The details of the new phase will be announced at a later date.

One other thing Rotary is excited about is the ability to meet the speakers attending their meetings in person as opposed to through a screen.

"we've got a great list of speakers that are coming up," mentions Meier. "Everything from the AMM coming up here in a couple of weeks to getting a chance to go see the Portage assisted living facility one night. So, the clubs got a lot of things on the go in addition to an exciting summer and an exciting fall coming up."

He notes, they're grateful for all the support the club gets from both the community and businesses of Portage la Prairie. He stresses that anyone interested to join is more than welcome to reach out to the club.

"We're always looking for members," says Meier. "Of course, people that are community-minded, interested in maybe getting involved in the community, we want you."
