The Portage la Prairie Potato Festival is back after a two-year hiatus. It is set to take place on August 5th and 6th.

Co-chair of the festival Cindy McDonald says they are thrilled to have the event return to the community this summer.

"I can't express how excited we are to actually be able to hold this again. It's the only free festival in the area," McDonald explains. "Free entertainment, free fries, free kids activities -- everything will be back."

McDonald says they are planning to keep things local this year with some smaller bands and musicians from the area set to take the spotlight. She adds they will be announcing the full lineup of acts in the coming weeks, but notes they have their headliner for night two in place.

"We just confirmed that Hicktown is going to be our headliner for Saturday night. They're a great local band that we've had a couple of times," says McDonald. "We're just keeping things more local this year. We'll re-evaluate next year and hopefully bring in a big headliner."

McDonald wants you to mark your calendars to make sure you don't miss out on Portage's only free festival.
