The Portage Terriers got back to their winning ways on Tuesday night when they edged the Winkler Flyers 3-2. It was a hard fought back and forth affair that came right down to the wire.

Winkler started out on home ice with some early pressure but it would be Portage that struck first. Colby Wolter was sprung on a partial breakaway and beat Dylan Meilun over his glove. The Flyers got on the board a few minutes later when a puck thrown on net from the corner bounced off of Terrier defenceman Zac Patrick into the net.

Jayden McCarthy gave the Flyers their first lead of the night early in the second. The puck came to him at the side of the net and he tucked it under the crossbar. Portage played better as the period moved along and scored their second of the night. Joey Moffatt drove home a rebound tight to the net. His line with Ocean Wiesblatt and Logan Christensen scored again a few minutes later. Christensen wrapped the puck around Meilun from his stomach in front of the crease.

The play skewed towards the Terriers in a strong third period. Both goalies made some key saves to keep the game 3-2. The play continued to get more physical but it stayed within the lines and no more penalties were called. Winkler pulled their goalie but couldn’t find the game tying goal. Portage finished the night 0/3 on the power play and 2/2 on the penalty kill. Nathan Moore stopped 25 for the win in net.

Portage is 9-1 on the season and remain in first place. They now travel to OCN for a pair of games this weekend. Both games will be broadcast on CFRY and portageonline.com.
