Human remains discovered in Portage la Prairie last week have been identified as a woman who was reported missing to the Winnipeg Police Service earlier this summer.

According to police, on Sept. 3 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Manitoba First Nation Police Service received information of possible human remains located near Cottonwood Drive, in the RM of Portage la Prairie.

The remains have been identified as 36-year-old Tamara (Norman) Benoit and her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Police say Benoit was reported missing to Winnipeg Police Service on July 10, 2020 and last had contact with her family around the end of May. She was last seen in May 2020, around Portage la Prairie and Long Plain First Nation.

Investigators are hoping that someone has information on Benoit and her activities since she was last heard from in May. Police are asking anyone with information to contact RCMP Major Crime Services Tip Line at 1-888-673-3316.

Portage RCMP, RCMP Major Crime Services, Manitoba First Nation Police Service, Winnipeg Police Missing Persons Unit, Forensic Identification Services, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner's continue to investigate.
