Toroti had visited Portage la Prairie before she took the Beyond the Perimeter tour earlier this week, but she had never truly explored the community.

Toroti came to Canada seven years ago, and has lived in Winnipeg for the past five years. Prior to that, she lived in Nigeria for 24 years before moving to the United States for a few years, and then went to the Netherlands.

She says she was happy to learn about our community.

The tour stopped at Stride Place for lunch."Well, now we saw everything and I was just looking at today, and wow, this place is big," says Toroti. "This place is beautiful."

As part of the Beyond the Perimeter tour, Toroti and almost two-dozen others learned about many of the employment opportunities Portage has, as well as some of the other services and amenities available.

"All the factories and the companies that we visited was so impressive," says Toroti. "I'm so happy that there are job opportunities for immigrants here."

When asked what she thought about Portage, she says she fell in love.

"You have everything here, and everything within a very short distance," says Toroti. "You don't need to go to Winnipeg for anything. Zero traffic? Forget it. It's very very nice."

The Beyond the Perimeter tour was the first one offered, but more are expected to happen in the future.
